The hits keep coming from Sundance. Spike Lee protege, Dee Rees’ debut film, ‘Pariah,’ which premiered to rave reviews at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, has been acquired by Focus Features for theatrical distribution, according to Deadline.com.
Rees’ film is a coming of age story of a 17-year old African American teen from Brooklyn trying to find her place in the world, and coming to terms with her identity as a lesbian and stars Adepero Oduye, Pernell Walker, Kim Wayans, Charles Parnell and Aasha Davis.
Focus gave Rees a deal in the seven-figure plus engaged the the talented young filmmaker to write another script with an eye for her to direct.
