Cover Girl | Regina King

19 01 2011

Sexy Southland co-star Regina King graces the cover of the latest issue of Essence. This fierce young woman has grown up in front of our eyes and she has become a confident, mature and sexy woman!

King made her acting debut at the tender age of 14 as little Brenda Jenkins on 227. She got wider exposure in several John Singleton films including Boyz in the Hood, Higher Learning and Poetic Justice. She rounded out the decade with memorable roles in Friday and as the wife of eventual Oscar-winner Cuba Gooding, Jr. in Jerry Maguire.

She’s had great success playing the wife/girlfriend in several notable films including Enemy of the State, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Down to Earth, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde and A Cinderella Story. But King struck paydirt with a passionate, strong performance as Margie Hendricks, a singer in Ray Charles’ backup group The Raelettes and one of the musical legend’s mistresses, in Ray.

Recently, the 40-year old stunner has provided the voices for the characters Huey and Riley Freeman in the popular animated show, The Boondocks. King also made a memorable impression as a vengeful wife in the holiday film, This Christmas. She currently stars in the TNT police drama Southland, as Detective Lydia Adams.

Plus, you have to love King for her unbridled and very public support for then-Senator Barack Obama during his historic run for the White House. King stumped across the pivotal battleground state of Ohio in support of Obama. This Black Reel Award nominated actress has clearly hit her stride with her best work still very much in front of her!
