Berry Confirmed for Queen of Soul Biopic!

15 01 2011

In the 1960’s, Aretha Franklin wanted R-E-S-P-E-C-T, most recently she wanted Halle Berry to play her in a proposed biopic. Let’s just say that what the Queen of Soul wants she gets with the announcement that Berry has agreed to the starring role.

To say that Franklin is estactic would be an understatement. “For the last four years, we’ve been talking about [the film], and I have had a number of offers,” said Franklin.  “Unfortunately, they were not good offers. Now, we have something on the table. They have all of the financing on one project and the second project, and he’s in the process of writing things for me to approve on the tele-film.”

The choice of Berry clearly sends the signal that the film will focus on the early years of Franklin’s career when she was enjoying legendary status with Atlantic Records. There has been plenty of chatter in cyberspace that fellow Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson would have been a better and more logical choice since she could both sing Franklin’s songs as well as act but Franklin was fixated and determined to get Berry.

Do you agree with Franklin that Halle is the better choice or do you think JHud should have been riding on the cinematic “Freeway of Love?”

Ms Franklin,
You are the woman! But Haley is not you! Haley can not do you justice. Jennifer is the person who has been through the storm and can be you!!!! God Bless you as God sets you free indeed.

Linda, in this case I feel your pain but Aretha lobbied hard to get Halle in the title role; I guess she wants her to portray her in the lean/early years!

I would have really thought she would have like Jennifer Hudson to play her. Not taken away from Halle she’s my girl too I’m just saying though.
