First Look | Avatar

26 07 2009

It’s been ten years since uber director James Cameron appeared to fall off the face of the earth after the historic success of “Titanic.” After a long hiatus, Cameron is back with one of the year’s most anticipated films, his high-tech holiday release, “Avatar.”

The film tells the story of an ex-Marine who finds himself thrust into hostilities on an alien planet filled with exotic life forms. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, he finds himself torn between two worlds, in a desperate fight for his own survival and that of the indigenous people.

Cameron has been working on this film for ten years and it will incorporate new intuitive CGI technologies to transform the environments and characters into photorealistic 3D imagery that will transport the audience into the alien world rich with imaginative vistas, creatures and characters.

“Avatar” will star Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Peter Mensah, Laz Alonso, Wes Studi, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald.

The website for the film is now up where you’ll get a glimpse of what looks like a female Na’vi (the male one is pictured above) and you can listen to some of the score from the film. The site has a quick blurb about “Avatar Day,” a list of international release dates and many ways to follow updates on the film, opening in North America on December 18.
