First Look | G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra

29 05 2009

One of the summer’s most anticipated films, “G.I. Joe” has debuted it’s new international poster, courtesy of Empire Magazine. While initially lukewarm about this film based on a toy we had as children, this image is beginning to get us pumped up!

Hitting theaters on August 7, “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” uses the latest in next-generation spy and military equipment to fight the corrupt arms dealer Destro and the growing threat of the mysterious Cobra organization to prevent them from plunging the world into chaos. The adventure will take our heroes from the Egyptian desert to deep below the polar ice caps.

The film stars an diverse cast of young popular actors including Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Christopher Eccleston, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Byung Hun Lee, Sienna Miller, Rachel Nichols, Ray Park, Said Taghmaoui, Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans and Dennis Quaid.

This film continues the one of the summer season’s most annoying trends – movies with overlong titles (i.e., “Terminator Salvation,” “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince). We guess calling them “Terminator 4,” “Transformers 2” and “Harry Potter 6” would just be too damn simple . . .  and we’re back!

Much like the abovementioned upcoming “Transformers” film, “Rise of the Cobra” looks like it will be entertaining even if the story may make us feel like using our “kung-fu grip” on the filmmakers!

It’s about F-ing time someone grabbed Marlon Wayans for a super-hero role. The man was smokin HOT in Requiem for a Dream.
I can’t wait for this movie!!!!
