Trailer Park | The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3

21 02 2009

When in doubt, Hollywood has never been afraid to remake the tried and true . . . even some cases when the original leaves a lot to be desired. Oscar winners Denzel Washington and John Travolta join together to update the 1974 suspense thriller, “The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3.

Washington stars as New York City subway dispatcher Walter Garber, whose ordinary day is thrown into chaos by an audacious crime: the hijacking of a subway train.  Travolta stars as Ryder, the criminal mastermind who, as leader of a highly-armed gang of four, threatens to execute the train’s passengers unless a large ransom is paid within one hour. As the tension mounts beneath his feet, Garber employs his vast knowledge of the subway system in a battle to outwit Ryder and save the hostages. But there’s one riddle Garber can’t solve: even if the thieves get the money, how can they possibly escape?

Washington and Travolta are breathing new life into the original roles played by Walter Matthau and “Jaws” Robert Shaw.” The film also teams Washington with one of his favorite directors, Tony Scott (“Man on Fire”).

It appears that the two-time Oscar winner Washington is determined to work with all of Hollywood’s top guns. Recently, he signed on opposite Tom Cruise in the spy thriller, “The Matarese Circle,” and already has films opposite Tom Hanks, Russell Crowe and Julia Roberts. We guess “game surely recognizes game” and with matching statues on his mantle, Washington is one of the game’s legendary players!

“The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3” will be released in theaters on June 12.
