Reel Love | Love and Basketball

10 02 2009

Nine years ago, director Gina Prince-Bythewood combined her dual passions into one of the most romantic films ever made featuring an African-American cast, the touching love story, “Love and Basketball.”

Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps headlined this tale of two lifelong friends whose interest in b-ball and ultimately each other make for compelling drama. Based on Prince-Bythewood’s experiences growing up, Lathan and Epps complimented each other perfectly.

The film took home four Black Reel Awards including Best Actress for Lathan, Best Director for Bythewood as well as Best Soundtrack and Best Song for Meshell Ndegeocello’s “Fool of Me.”

Who will ever forget the line, “I’ll play you one-on-one. For what? Your heart!” Damn, we feel a tear comin’ on!
