Yesterday, we were invited to a special presentation of the future of 3-D with DreamWorks SKG Animation founder, Jeffrey Katzenberg. While in the house, the mogul also previewed several scenes of the upcoming animated blockbuster, “Monsters vs. Aliens.”

In no other industry is technology more value than in the motion picture industry. With every new technological advance we continue to see the filmmaking experience evolve to a point that creates a near perfect filmgoing experience in front and behind the camera. No where has this been more apparent over the past 20 years as it has been in animated film.

From the early breakthroughs in the early 1990s of films such as “Aladdin,” “The Lion King” and “Toy Story 1 & 2,” Katzenberg has been there nearly every step of the way. From his perch at Disney to his current DreamWorks association, the mogul remains as passionate about the art form.

His latest film, “Monsters vs. Aliens” tells the story of an impending alien invasion that can only be thwarted by a secret government monster program. The monster all-star team features 50-foot woman, Susan (Reese Witherspoon), the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D. (Hugh Laurie), The Missing Link (Will Arnett), B.O.B. the blob (Seth Rogen) and Gallaxhar (Rainn Wilson). The film also stars Stephen Colbert as the President and “24’s” Kiefer Sutherland as General W.R. Monger.

While we only witnessed a small sample of the story, we must admit that we came away impressed that the film has the look and smell of a WHOLE LOT of money this summer.

“Monsters vs. Aliens” opens in theaters on March 27, 2009.
