Hot Trax | The Look of Love

12 08 2008

With the death of “Black Moses,” Issac Hayes, we lost another musical pioneer and innovator that nearly closes the book on one the most prolific music eras for soul music.

In the past decade, we lost James Brown, Luther Vandross, Barry White among other soul greats. While never having the opportunity to see Hayes do his thing live, his music has served as a heavy inspiration for musicianship.

As we wrote over the weekend, one of things that he excelled and got very little credit with his composition skills. if you listen to the intros from “Hot Buttered Soul,” “The Issac Hayes Movement” and “Shaft,” no one and we mean NO ONE could open a song like Hayes.

While he is gone, much like his contemporaries above, Hayes has left us a musical soundtrack that is as funky as it is lovingly sensual.

Rest in peace, brother!
