Trailer Park | Ashes of Time Redux

30 07 2008

For fans of Chinese Wuxia cinema, literally meaning “martial arts heroes,” director Wong Kar-wai revisits his epic story once again in “Ashes of Time Redux.”

A retelling of the 1994 film, “Ashes of Time,” this latest version finds a broken-hearted hit man who moves to the desert where he finds skilled swordsmen to carry out his contract killings. While one of the most talked about Hong Kong films of the past decade, it is ironically perhaps one of the most simple — at least on the surface.

This sprawling and beautifully filmed epic story revisit familiar wuxia themes notably love, revenge and redemption. Very similar to many other films that found huge success in America most notably “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and “Hero,” “Ashes of Time Redux” will hopefully take its place with other classic films of its genre.

“Ashes of Time Redux” opens in theaters October 10.
