Reel Images | The 100 Greatest Movie Posters

The selling of a movie doesn’t begin with a cast, trailers or even a good script. For most in the public, the first image they see will be the film’s one-sheeter better known as the film’s poster. Over at TCCandler.com, they are in the process of determining the “The 100 Greatest Movie Posters.”

For years, we’ve collected posters of various films and beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. Many of the posters selected are not from huge films, but obscure, small gems. According to their description, a great poster should “intrigue, shock, inspire & excite. It should be aesthetically beautiful or original. Above all, it should be so memorable that a single glance will be instantly recognizable.”

For that reason the “American Gangster” poster stand out. With its simple use of black and white which distinguishes the principals; check out the detective shield and the gun, simple but effective. Hint, “American Gangster’s” poster was NOT one of the 100 selected.
