Reel Shorts | It Takes A Village

Former Black Reel Award Best Independent Film nominee Adetoro Makinde’s latest short film is a touching story of a little boy who discovers who to be a big man in “It Takes A Village.”

Makinde’s last film, “In Time” was nominated for Best Independent film for the 2006 Black Reel Awards. Her latest offering is one of four finalist for the Chase Legacy Film Challenge presented by Blackfilm.com.

Makinde, who formed Backdoor Productions in 2000, had only three weeks to complete her project. “Because I had written the treatment around the city of New Orleans, a city that knows all too well what it means to preserve it’s legacy, I didn’t feel right shooting it elsewhere,” said Makinde. “So how does one prep a film in one week outside of their home, with no location, no actors, no equipment and no crew… it’s called FAITH! And with that faith, the Village of New Orleans came together and lifted me to greatness.”
