One of history’s most controversial and notorious rulers, Genghis Khan gets the big screen treatment in the soon-to-be-released film, “Mongol.”
Released in Russia last September, “Mongol” will be released in America this June. The film tells the story of the early life of Khan who was a slave before going on to conquer half the world including Russia in 1206. Khan was the founder, ruler and emperor (after his death) of the Mongol Empire, the largest contiguous empire in history. After founding the Mongol Empire and being proclaimed “Genghis Khan”, he pursued an aggressive foreign policy by starting the Mongol invasions of East and Central Asia. During his life, the Mongol Empire eventually occupied most of Asia.
Nominated for a Best Foreign Language Oscar representing Kazakstan, if the movie is half as intense as the trailer, this film could be a box-office sleeper this summer.
