27 01 2008

First she played a Diana Ross-esque “Dreamgirl. Now Beyoncé is set to play R&B and Blues singer Etta James in the musical film, “Cadillac Records.”

The talented Grammy-award winning singer is the second musician playing a musical legend onscreen this year. Late last year, Alicia Keys was tabbed to play sexy siren, Lena Horne in another film that slated for release later this year.

James had her biggest success as a blues and R&B singer in the 1950s and 1960s. She is best known for her signature song, the 1961 ballad “At Last,” which has been classified as a “timeless classic.”

Exploring 1950s Chicago, “Cadillac Records” will take a look at musical legends such as Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters and Elvis Presley. Beyoncé joins a cast that already features Jeffrey Wright, Cedric the Entertainer, Columbus Short and Adrien Brody.
