Last night, I was confident that Barack Obama was in good shape at the New Hampshire primary. As I was leaving a film screening, I was informed that Hillary Clinton had a small lead that throughout the evening she would never relinquish.
How is it possible that earlier in the day, polls had reported that Senator Obama had a lead of between 9 percent to the double-digits and he would lose by two percent?
Was it former President Bill Clinton’s attack on Obama calling his candidacy, “biggest fairy tale I’ve ever seen or Hillary getting “emotional” during a campaign stop?
I’m searching for answers because I don’t want to believe that there were people in the Granite State that went to the polls, closed the curtains and thought, “I could help this BLACK man win the presidency!”
Throughout the campaign, Senator Obama has demonstrated the ability to unite Democrats, Republicans and Independents while energizing everyday Americans with a brand of optimism unseen since the Bill Clinton candidacy or Bobby Kennedy’s run four decades earlier.
Hillary Clinton’s camp seems to think that in order to reestablish her front-runner status in this contest that she needs to play the race and experience card. For many African-Americans who revered President Clinton, his latest attack may fall in the category of “the cost of doing business,” but it still is shameful nonetheless. I know you love your wife, but you can’t be President for her!
Hillary, here is my message to you. Since you’re a fan of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., remember it was he who said “he dreamed of a day when his children would be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin.” Hillary, what is the content of your character? Maybe that’s not a concern because of the color of your skin!
